Indonesian President orders breakthroughs to accelerate industry 4.0 roadmap

Indonesian President Joko Widodo on September 3 ordered breakthroughs to accelerate the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) roadmap in the country.

Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo on September 3 ordered breakthroughsto accelerate the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) roadmap in thecountry.

Speaking at aCabinet meeting, the Indonesian President underlined that steps of the Industry4.0 roadmap, which was revealed in April 2018, should be measurable and clear.He added that Indonesia must make various “leaps and breakthroughs".

Severalbreakthroughs are necessary, such as improving regulations and the quality ofhuman resources, building a good ecosystem of innovation, increasing incentivesfor investment in technology, and redesigning industrial zones to improve theflow of material. The steps of change should be realised in five prioritysectors, namely food and beverages, automotive, textile, electronics, andchemicals, Widodo said.

If the Indonesiangovernment concentrates on improving the structure of the national industry, itcan be even stronger and gross domestic product (GDP) will be increased significantly,especially exports and investment, he noted.

The Making Indonesia4.0 - a roadmap for integrating strategies to enter the Industry 4.0 era - providesa clear direction for the movement of the national industry with a focus ondeveloping the five priority sectors and undertaking 10 national initiatives tostrengthen Indonesia's industrial structure.

The successfulimplementation of Making Indonesia 4.0 can then drive the growth of real GDP byone to two percent per year so that per year it will rise from the"baseline" from five to between six and seven percent between 2018and 2030.

In addition toincreasing productivity, Making Indonesia 4.0 promises to create 7 to 19million jobs, both in the manufacturing and non-manufacturing sectors by 2030as a result of greater export demand.-VNA
