Jakarta authorities raise concerns over increased waste during New Year’s Eve

Jakarta (VNA)🃏 – Acting Governor of Indonesia's Jakarta Teguh Setyabudi on December 27 said that the city will discharge additionally 150 tonnes of waste during the coming New Year’s Eve, about 20 tonnes more than that of 2024.

More New Year celebration points in various areas of Jakarta and rains may cause more waste, he said. Data from the country’s Ministry of Environment states that the amount of waste in Jakarta reaches 7,500 tonnes per day.
According to Teguh, the Jakarta Environmental Agency has developed a plan to collect waste and ensure the city’s cleanliness during the Christmas and New Year holidays. The agency has deployed 3,900 cleaning personnel, with 2,100 to strategic areas such as Monas, HI Roundabout, and Thamrin-Sudirman street.
For the Monas area, Teguh said 29 inorganic trucks, five cross cars, and thousands of plastic bags will be deployed to ensure the area remains clean during and after the New Year's Eve celebration. Previously, the Indonesia Ministry of Environment asked Jakarta authorities to coordinate in implementing a plan on waste control for Christmas celebration 2024 and New Year 2025./.
