More than 6,800 households in seven island communes in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang will be connected to the national power grid thanks to a project funded by the Southern Power Corporation under the Electricity of Vietnam. The beneficiaries include Hon Heo village of Son Hai commune, Hon Nghe commune, Hon Doc commune, Lai Son commune, An Son commune, Nam Du commune, and Hon Thom commune.
The project, with total costs exceeding 1.5 trillion VND (67.77 million USD), is scheduled to commence next month in Lai Son commune in Kien Hai district. The costs will cover the installation of a network of hundreds of kilometres of undersea, underground and overhead cable and the building of thousands of devices and two transformer stations.
The project aims to facilitate the development of fisheries and tourism, thus contributing to improving living conditions for island residents and ensuring security-defence. Between 2014 and 2015, two other similar projects were carried out in Phu Quoc and Hon Tre islands of Kien Giang.-VNA
