Malaysia and the Czech Republic agreed to foster relations in trade, education and tourism during a recent visit by Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaorelek to Kuala Lumpur, the first of its kind since 1994. Speaking at a press conference after meeting his Czech counterpart on October 26, Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman said bilateral trade between the two had grown steadily over the past 10 years.
Their business transactions generated 410 million USD in 2014, up 25.5 percent year on year. Malaysia mainly ships office equipment, machinery and telecommunications devices to the Czech Republic, while importing industrial machinery, chemical products and electrical devices from its European partner. Currently, there are 227 Malaysian students studying health in the Czech Republic.
More than 9,000 Czech tourists visited the Asian nation in 2014, an annual rise of 20.2 percent. The Czech minister said his country sought further co-operation in mechanics, food, automobiles and healthcare. Zaorelek is scheduled to meet Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein to discuss possibilities of the Czech Republic’s provision of military devices and vehicles for Malaysia.-VNA
