Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - The Malaysian Ministry of Energy andNatural Resources (KeTSA) has opened a bidding process for the Large ScaleSolar (LSS) programme to create momentum for the national economypost-COVID-19.

Minister Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said some 1,000 megawatts(MW) of solar quota has been offered through the bidding process since March 31that is open to local companies or those with at least 75 percent local shareholding.

The move is aimed at reviving and stimulating the economy that isaffected by the COVID-19 pandemic, while spurring the development of thenation's electricity industry, especially renewable energy, he said.

He said the ministry expects to attract investments totaling 4billion RM (nearly 1 billion USD) and generate 12,000 job opportunities forMalaysians.

The quota offered this time is thebiggest under the LSS programme as during LSS-1 some 370MW solar were offered;LSS-2,520MW; and LSS-3, 500MW./.
