Hanoi (VNA) – Malaysia’s new Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad onMay 18 unveiled more minister picks for his cabinet, which will be sworn in on May21.

The 14-member cabinet list, which includes PM Mahathir and Wan AzizahWan Ismail as Deputy PM, basically divides the posts equally among the fourcomponent parties in the ruling Pakatan Harapan coalition.

PM Mahathir backtracked on his earlier plan to take over the educationminister, and gave it over to Maszlee Malik from his party, Malaysian UnitedIndigenous Party (PPBM).

Mohamed Azmin bin Ali from the People's Justice Party (Amanah) and alsochief minister of the wealthy Selangor state, is named as minister of economicaffairs.

Anthony Loke Siew Fook from the Democratic Action Party (DAP) is namedas the minister of transport, while Gobind Singh Deo, another DAP veteran, isnamed as minister of communications and multimedia.

Salahuddin Ayub from the National Trust Party is named as minister ofagriculture and agro-based industry.

Mahathir has said the government will have a smaller cabinet comparedwith the previous one, with 25 ministers in total. He has already named LimGuan Eng as the finance minister, Muhyiddin Yassin as the home minister andMohamad Sabu as the defense minister. 

Mahathir once served as the Prime Minister of Malaysia from 1981 to2003. Now, at the age of 92, he became the world’s oldest governmentleader.-VNA
