Minister highlights Vietnam’s contributions to ASEAN in Industry 4.0

Phnom Penh (VNA) – Minister of Information and CommunicationsNguyen Manh Hung on March 15 highlighted Vietnam’s contributions to the ASEANin the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution while addressing aministerial forum as part of the “Digital Cambodia 2019” in Phnom Penh.

The Vietnamese official said that regarding policy, Vietnamhas coordinated with the World Economic Forum to build an Industry 4.0 connectioncentre based in Vietnam, calling for the engagement of other countries in thedevelopment of the centre.

In terms of infrastructure, Vietnam will pilot 5G service in2019 and share experience with other countries in developing the technology, hesaid, noting that Hanoi will host an ASEAN ministerial conference on 5G fromMarch 21-22.

In order to develop information-communications technologythrough the “Make in Vietnam 4.0” programme, Vietnam has focused on developingInternet of Things and telecommunications devices, 5G chips, and monitoringcameras, he said.

The minister underlined Vietnam’s willingness to work withother ASEAN countries to set up factories for the production of the devices.

Digital Cambodia 2019, which will wrap up on March 17, is thebiggest technology exhibition of Cambodia with the participation of leading ICTfirms, including many Vietnamese representatives such as Metfone, VNPT,MobiFone, FPT and BKAV.

The event focuses on seeking measures for the development ofsmall- and medium-sized enterprises (SME), especially through mobile paymentapplications, and technology startups and education solutions.

The facilitation of startup in SMEs and education has beenconsidered as the first step to promote startup in tourism, agriculture andhealth care.

Digital Cambodia 2019 is part of efforts for CambodianMinistry of Post and Telecommunications to complete its startup ecosystem by thefirst quarter of this year.

The event is organised by Cambodia’s National Institute ofPost, Telecommunications and Information Communication Technology with the fundof technology firms of Smart Axiata, Metfone and Huawei.-VNA
