Minister spotlights role of 5G at ASEAN Conference

Hanoi (VNA) – Minister of Information and Communication (MIC) NguyenManh Hung highlighted the role of 5G – the next generation of wirelesstechnology – as the pillar of the digital economy at the ASEAN Conference on 5Gin Hanoi on March 21.

Hung said that 5G willbe the most important part of the infrastructure for the digital economy thanksto its greater bandwidth, higher speeds and lower latency.

He stated that thedigital economy is creating new opportunities, noting that new technologieswill enable better connectivity between supply chains, and reduce logistics andbusiness costs.

According to theminister, Vietnam will be one of the first countries in the world to roll out 5G.

The ministry licensedlocal carriers to test the technology in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, he stated,adding that the country is also focusing on developing 5G-based technologiesand equipment.

Vietnam is willing tocooperate with the ASEAN countries to establish joint ventures and factories tomake IT equipment, he affirmed.

The ASEAN Conferenceon 5G took place in Hanoi on March 21-22, during which regional regulators andexperts will discuss 5G development policies and strategies, as well as challengesin building a 5G-based ecosystem.
