- The Politburo convened a meeting in Hanoi on September 18 to deliberate on an investment policy for the North-South high-speed railway project, concluding that it is a highly important and necessary infrastructure work.

The project aims to meet the growing transportation demand, contributing to the optimal and sustainable restructuring of the transport market along the North-South corridor. It aligns with the Party’s policies and orientations for transportation infrastructure investment, as outlined in the national development strategy under the 13th National Party Congress’s Resolution and national planning schemes. - The Prime Minister has issued decisions to enforce disciplinary actions against incumbent and former Deputy Ministers of Finance for violations and shortcomings in performing their duties, which already prompted Party disciplinary actions.

Specifically, former Deputy Finance Minister Huynh Quang Hai received a warning while Deputy Finance Minister Vo Thanh Hung and former Deputy Finance Minister Do Hoang Anh Tuan were reprimanded. The decisions took effect on September 17. Read full story

- The Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) will help Vietnam and many other developing countries realise their net-zero emissions targets by 2050, and shift to the use of clean energy, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long said at a working session with Norwegian Ambassador to Vietnam Hilde Solbakken in Hanoi on September 18.

Long said, to effectively carrying out the JETP, the Ministry of Industry and Trade established eight working groups focusing on developing offshore wind power, renewable energy centre, and smart power grid, providing training to improve energy transition capacity, and developing green hydrogen, among others. The groups have contributed initiatives to implementing National Power Development Plan VIII, as well as bolstering the development of renewable energy in Vietnam, he said. Read full story

- Vietnam moved up one place to rank 71st among 193 countries in the 2024 edition of the United Nations (UN) E-Government Survey – Accelerating Digital Transformation for Sustainable Development, which was launched by the UN on September 17.
