Jakarta (VNA) -
Mount Agung volcano located in the north of Bali resortisland of Indonesia erupted on early December 30.

According tothe country’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), theeruption occurred at 4:09 am (local time) but the exact height of ash columnsis hardly able to be observed.

Heavy cloudhindered direct vision to the peak of the volcano when it erupted, it said.

The eruptionwas recorded by seismograph with maximum amplitude of 22 mm, lasted in threeminutes and eight seconds, it added.

The agency issuedthe level III danger status of the volcano.

Indonesia'sCentre of Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) urged locals,trekkers and tourists to stay away from red zone at present, which is 4 km fromthe volcano crater.

The PVMBGsaid the red zone areas could be expanded or reduced in the following days onthe basis of results monitored by its observation outpost.

It alsowarned people residing near the rivers of being cautious of potential threatsas the lava and volcanic materials may flow into rivers.-VNA
