
Nur Sultan (VNA) – The 4th Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’Parliaments (MSEAP 4) kicked off in Nur Sultan, the capital city of Kazakhstan, on September 24 with Vice Chairwoman ofthe National Assembly Tong Thi Phong representing Vietnam at the event.
Themed“Greater Eurasia: Dialogue. Trust. Partnership”, the meeting brought together 65 parliamentarydelegations from European and Asian countries and 14 international and inter-parliamentary organisations.
The first President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, is participating in the event which is being held on the year of the 25th anniversaryof his initiative on Eurasianintegration.
In hiswelcoming remarks, Nazarbayev recalled the initiative, saying the message ofKazakhstan this year is to position Eurasia as a platform for testing a brand-new model of partnership based on a joint and collective settlement of arisingcontradictions among the countries as well as countering common challenges.
At the MSEAP 4,parliamentarians discuss ways of ensuring safe and sustainable development ofthe Eurasian continent and the implementation of major integration economicprojects of the 21st century.
In addition toplenary sessions, dozens of bilateral meetings arescheduled to be held on the sidelines of the event, enabling parliamentariansto exchange law-making experience and coordinate efforts and actions towardsincreasing the wellbeing of their peoples.
Following theopening ceremony in the morning, participants attended three plenary sessions and adopted astatement in the afternoon.
Speaker of theMajilis of Kazakhstan’s Parliament Nurlan Nigmatulin, Chairman of State Duma ofthe Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Viacheslav Volodin and Speaker of the NationalAssembly of the Republic of Korea Moon Hee-sang are the co-organisers of the forum.
MSEAP is a Eurasian parliamentary cooperation mechanisminitiated by the Chairman of the State Duma of Russia and the Speaker of theNational Assembly of the Republic of Korea.
The annual meeting offers a chance for legislative bodiesin the world’s largest continent to coordinate their actions and improve the role of parliamentary diplomacy as well as to exchange ideas to addressglobal challenges.
The final document of MSEAP is the Joint Statement signedby heads of the participating delegations.
It was firstheld in Russia in 2016./.
