Ninh Thuan ramps up efforts to eradicate substandard housing

Ninh Thuan (VNA) – The south-central province of Ninh Thuan is stepping up efforts to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated homes, rallying strong support from businesses, organisations, and the wider community.
A province-wide campaign led by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ninh Thuan has mobilised enterprises and residents to join hands in providing safe and stable housing for those in need. The initiative has gained significant momentum, drawing widespread participation and fostering a strong sense of social responsibility.
To ensure effective implementation, Ninh Thuan has established a three-tier steering committee and launched an emulation campaign. These initiatives have yielded tangible results, with significant contributions flowing into the fund for the poor and the housing fund, along with material donations and volunteer labour.
According to Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Long Bien, state funding remains sufficient to cover basic housing support, with 60 million VND (2,351 USD) allocated for each new home and 30 million VND for repairs. However, securing additional social contributions to meet the province’s ambitious targets remains a challenge.
Ninh Thuan aims to eliminate 1,938 substandard homes by June 2025, including constructing 1,431 new houses and repairing 507. So far, 627 homes have been launched thanks to a combination of state budget allocations and mobilised support.

Across the country, provinces and cities are mobilising all available resources to eliminate inadequate housing, ensuring stable living conditions for low-income families, social policy beneficiaries, and individuals with meritorious service.
Last year, the province successfully raised 100.5 billion VND to build 1,802 houses, including 250 for families of ex-revolutionaries and others for poor households. However, nearly 3,500 local households still grapple with housing difficulties, requiring an estimated 200 billion VND in additional support.
