He said his ministry has requested the Vietnamese Embassy in Morocco and Burkina Faso to promptly contact competent local agencies to learn more about the incident and whether there have been Vietnamese nationals affected by the assault.
The embassy was also asked to continue keeping a close watch on the incident while taking urgent measures to support and ensure safety for Vietnamese citizens in the West African nation, he said.
Answering reporters’ queries on Vietnam’s response to the attack, Binh said Vietnam is concerned about and vehemently condemns recent consecutive terrorist attacks, with the latest in Burkina Faso on January 15, leaving many dead and injured.
“We would like to share in the losses with families of the deceased in the assault and strongly believe that attackers will be punished appropriately,” the spokesman said.
The attackers raided a luxury hotel in Burkina Faso on late January 15, shooting some and taking others hostage in a siege that lasted hours and ended with at least 28 people dead.
