Over 100,000 poor people helped to land jobs overseas

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Bank for Social Policies has helped 109,462 labourersfrom families of disadvantaged conditions and beneficiary policies and indisadvantaged localities go to work abroad.
The assistance is part of a preferential credit programme the bank has designedfor labour export activities.
NguyenVan Ly, Deputy General Director of the bank said that the programme hassignificantly contributed to poverty reduction efforts in various localities aswell as the National Target Programme on Poverty Reduction, while helping thecountry collect a considerable sum of hard currencies.
Workersreturning home after overseas working terms are likely to produce higherproductivity and work performance, thus raising their living standards.-VNA
A seminar took place in Hanoi on December 16 focusing on issues relating to safety for Vietnamese guest workers and the role of local trade unions in supporting and protecting the workers.
Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Hong Lan said at a conference in Hanoi that 1.641 million people got new jobs in 2016, including at home and abroad.
The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) aims to create more than 1.6 million new jobs for labourers, including 105,000 people sent to work abroad, said Minister Dao Ngoc Dung.
The central province of Quang Nam aims to send at least 400 labourers to foreign countries this year, targeting high-income markets like the Republic of Korea, Japan and Taiwan (China).
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
The festival highlighted the contributions and robust development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century while promoting press products and showcasing the creativity of Vietnamese journalists.
The programme on sustainable poverty reduction has achieved its annual targets for reducing the poverty rate as assigned by the National Assembly and the Government. It has fulfilled five specific objectives and five five-year goals, and met nine out of 12 indicators related to addressing basic social service shortages.
