Hanoi (VNA) – Theprogramme to raise funds for the benefit of flood victims through sending SMShas received 21,490 responses, each with a value of 20,000 VND (0.9 USD),according to the Vietnam Red Cross Association.
The programme, launched onJuly 8 by the association and the national humanitarian information portal andwill last until September 4, aims to raise at least 1.5 billion VND to buynecessities, build and repair houses for the households hard hit by the recentfloods and landslides in the northern mountainous areas, as well as help thevictims find ways to earn their living.
On August 11 alone, thecentral committee of the association encouraged staff of 13 Lotte commercialcentres throughout the country to join the programme. Volunteers also conductedactivities to attract customers visiting the centres to the humanitariancampaign.
In order to mobiliseresources for the programme, the committee called on all of the association’schapters nationwide to encourage members, volunteers, organizations and peopleof all walks of life to join hands for the victims.
With the donations, theassociation has provided emergency relief worth over 1 billion VND to thevictims. It also called for larger participation from all the organizations andindividuals inside and outside the country.
