PM congratulates Khmer community on Chol Chnam Thmay 2024
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has sent a letter of congratulations to Khmer people, monks and nuns on the occasion of their traditional New Year festival Chol Chnam Thmay 2024.

Hanoi (VNA)༺ – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has sent a letterof congratulations to Khmer people, monks and nuns on the occasion of their traditionalNew Year festival Chol Chnam Thmay 2024.
On behalf of Party and State leaders, the PMextended his greetings and best wishes to the Khmer people, monks and nuns.
Recognising the Khmer community, with over 1.3million people, as an integral part of Vietnam's ethnic groups, he commendedtheir contributions to the cause of national construction and defence as well as their observance of the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws.
In the letter, the government leader emphasisedthe importance the Party and State have placed on ethnic and religious affairs,stressing that that effectively enforcing policies in these areas is crucialfor strengthening national unity and promoting the positive and humanitarianvalues of all ethnic groups.
He called on agencies and localities withKhmer communities to actively and flexibly adopt measures to improve livelihoods,offer care to policy beneficiaries, ex-revolutionaries and their families, disadvantagedhouseholds while upholding the role of intellectuals, respected individuals,and community leaders in the Khmer community.
They were also urged to ensure that theKhmer people celebrate the Chol Chnam Thmay festival in a unified, joyful, safe,economical and culturally appropriate manner./.
A delegation led by President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Commitee Do Van Chien on April 12 attended a gathering of Khmer people in the southernmost province of Ca Mau on the occasion of Chol Chnam Thmay, their most important traditional festival.
Chol Chnam Thmay is a New Year festival of the Khmer ethnic people according to their traditional calendar. The festival fell on April 14-16 this year. In Soc Trang province, over 400,000 Khmer people celebrated the traditional New Year festival with joy and fun thanks to improved livelihoods.
Chol Chnam Thmay New Year is the biggest festival on the Khmer calendar, which takes place around mid-April of the solar calendar every year. The festival expresses the wish for a new year of favourable rain and wind, and bountiful crops.
The Chol Chnam Thmay Festival of the Khmer ethnic minority people usually takes place around mid-April every year, expressing their wish for a new year with favourable weather and bumper crops. This year, the festival takes place from April 14 to 16, 2023.
PM Pham Minh Chinh highlighted how Vietnam's revolutionary press has continuously evolved and strengthened over the past century, affirming its role as a sharp and vital political, cultural, and ideological weapon serving the Fatherland and the people in the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party.
