PM meets with President of Palau on UNOC3 sidelines

Nice (VNA) – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held a bilateral meeting with President of Palau Surangel Whipps Jr. in Nice, France on June 9 (local time) on the sidelines of the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3).
PM Chinh affirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to its relations with Pacific Island nations, including Palau. He expressed his hope to advance bilateral ties with Palau in a substantive, effective, and comprehensive manner across all areas.
President Whipps held that while the current relationship between the two countries remains modest, it holds significant potential for growth, particularly in trade, investment, aviation connectivity, tourism, and labour cooperation.
Sharing a common approach of having a "long-term vision, deep thinking, and ambitious action" in order to create a breakthrough in bilateral relations, the two sides agreed to instruct relevant agencies of both countries to explore the possibility of negotiating and signing cooperation agreements in areas such as fisheries, labour, and visa exemption for citizens of both nations. These steps aim to facilitate stronger cooperation and enhanced people-to-people exchange, they noted.
🌊 The two sides also pledged to strengthen coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums and on issues of shared interest. These include upholding and respecting international law, promoting relations between Vietnam, ASEAN, and Pacific island nations, and addressing challenges such as climate change, sea level rise, and the sustainable use and protection of marine resources./.
Presenting a keynote speech, on behalf of the 10 member countries of ASEAN at the plenary session of the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3) in Nice, France, Prime Minister Chinh emphasised ASEAN’s vital geographical position.
The Vietnamese Government leader thanked Costa Rica for recognising Vietnam’s status as a market economy and expressed his belief that economic and trade relations between the two countries will grow significantly in the time ahead.
President of the Republic of Palau Surangel Whipps Jr. was very impressed by Vietnam’s economic development and wanted to cooperate with the Southeast Asian nation in construction, infrastructure development, tourism, human resources and fisheries, Minister of Human Resources, Culture, Tourism and Development Ngirabelas Tmetuchl said during a meeting with Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Vu Hong Nam in Tokyo on September 7.
The trip will be made at the invitations of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and WEF President and CEO Børge Brende, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Long spoke highly of the dynamic, positive, and comprehensive development of Vietnam – Russia relations in recent years. He affirmed that the Vietnamese Party and State place great importance on further strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia in a substantive and effective manner, in line with the development needs of both nations.
