Vientiane (VNA)🌜 – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc paid courtesy visits to former Lao Party General Secretary and President Choummaly Sayasone and former Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong in Vientiane on September 8.

At the meetings, PM Phuc congratulated Laos on its successful organisation of the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summits and related meetings to fulfil its role as the ASEAN Chair in 2016.
He affirmed Vietnam continually treasures and gives top priority to its special relationship with Laos and considers it a priceless asset that needs to be kept for next generations. At his meeting with the former Party General Secretary and President, PM Phuc confirmed that the two countries will intensify cooperation in realising an agreement on the cooperation plan between the two Governments in 2016, and organising the fourth theoretical conference between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. Both sides will also coordinate closely to successfully launch activities to mark the 55th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties and 40 years of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in 2017 so as to make the people understand more about the bilateral special relations.
Meanwhile, the Vietnamese leader and former Lao PM Thongsing Thammavong recalled strong and effective developments in the two countries’ comprehensive cooperation, including the successful implementation of the 2011-2015 cooperation agreement and the achievement of various important goals in the 2011-2020 strategy on economic, cultural, scientific and technological cooperation. PM Phuc affirmed the achievements owed much to instructions provided by ex-PM Thongsing Thammavong. He expressed his hope that Thongsing Thammavong and other former leaders of Laos will do more for the Vietnam-Laos special solidarity and all-round cooperation.-VNA
