PM urges Nghe An to form scientific complex of national standards

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on October 17 urged thecentral province of Nghe An to form a complex of scientific research andtransfer that meets national standards in the next five years, as part ofmeasures to realize the goal of becoming a development hub of the north centralregion.

Speakingat the 19th provincial Party Congress for 2020-2025 tenure, theleader said Nghe An should work to step up connectivity between economicregions while bringing into full play its own advantages.

PMPhuc required the province to well implement the Prime Minister’s decision ondeveloping Vinh city into the economic and cultural centre of the north centralregion by 2030, with orientations towards 2030.

Healso urged the province to attract and use effectively resources for localsocio-economic development, bolster development in its western part, improveliving standards in ethnic minority-inhabited and remote areas, especiallydisadvantaged mountainous localities, and narrow the development gap betweenthe eastern and western parts of the province.

NgheAn should also ensure national defence and security, political stability,social order and safety, and a strong Party and political system in the newtenure, he said.

Itwas reported at the congress that Nghe An’s gross regional domestic product(GRDP) growth was estimated at 7.84 percent during the 2016-2020 period, andits GRDP per capita is expected to reach 44.34 million VND (1,914 USD) at theend of this year.

Overthe past five years, the local agro-forestry-fishery sector expanded about 4.47percent annually.

Significantprogress has also been made in new-style rural area building, industry,construction, maritime economic development, infrastructure, and socio-culturalaffairs, according to the report.

However,it said, there still remain shortcomings such as slow sectoral restructuring,unsustainable agricultural development, and failure to attract investment inmajor industrial projects.

Duringthe 2020-2025 tenue, Nghe An aims to build a pure and strong Party organisationand political system, strengthen the great national unity bloc, optimise itspotential and advantages, promote innovation and creativity, and mobilise bothinternal and external resources for rapid and sustainable development, soonbecoming a connection centre of the north central region.

ItsGRDP is set to grow at 9.5-10.5 percent in the period, while GRDP per capita isprojected to reach about 83 million VND by 2025 and budget collection rangingfrom 26 trillion-30 trillion VND.

Totalsocial investment in the province would reach 500 trillion VND and urbanisationrate at 36 percent./.
