Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam always values developing the traditional friendly tieswith countries in Central Eastern Europe, with Poland as a priority partner,President Tran Dai Quang told President of Poland Andrzej Duda during their talksin Hanoi on November 28.
Thetalks took place following the welcome ceremony held the same day.
Duda,who is in a State visit from November 27-30, affirmed that Poland wants tonurture mutually beneficial ties with Vietnam in diverse areas.
Bothsides agreed to facilitate the exchange of all-level visits via the State,government, National Assembly, business and local channels.
Theyspoke highly of close and effective coordination between the two nations oninternational arena. The Vietnamese President congratulated Poland on beingelected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council forthe 2018-2019 tenure.
Dudaexpressed his support for Vietnam’s run for a non-permanent member of the UNSecurity Council for the 2020-2021 tenure and the early signing andratification of the European Union – Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).
Thetwo leaders highly appreciated considerable progress of bilateral links acrosseconomy-trade-investment over the past years. Poland is now Vietnam’s largesttrade partner in Central Eastern Europe while Vietnam is Poland’s seventhlargest trade partner outside the EU. Two-way trade hit a record 790 millionUSD last year, and reached 730 million USD in the nine months this year, up 25percent annually.
Poland’stotal investment in Vietnam doubled to 189 million USD from 2014-2017.
Inthe near future, Poland will soon disburse an official development assistance packageworth 250 million EUR to Vietnam in line with a framework agreement onfinancial cooperation signed during the visit.
Thetwo countries will actively realise the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) oneconomic cooperation, firstly facilitating the inauguration of the representativeoffice of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency in Ho Chi Minh City, therebyencouraging the two countries’ businesses to seek opportunities in fields ofPoland’s strength and Vietnam’s demand such as mining, food processing, pharmaceuticalsand environment protection.
Theyunderscored the importance of boosting national defence-security ties andpledged to share experience in overcoming the consequences of bombs and minesand the UN peacekeeping mission.
Hostand guest spoke highly of the signing of a tertiary education cooperationagreement with the increase in scholarships to the two nations’ students andgraduates to 20 per year and a letter of intent on opening Polish languagetraining courses between the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Educationand Hanoi University.
Theypromised to restore the Vietnam-Poland Joint Committee on Scientific andTechnological Cooperation mechanism and convene its meeting next year.
Thetwo Presidents welcomed the signing of a MoU on environment protectioncooperation and consented to reinforce joint work in the treatment of garbageand wastewater and green technology.
PresidentQuang hailed Poland for adding Vietnam into its list of 14 priority agricultureexport markets and the signing of the MoU on agriculture collaboration duringthe visit.
Hethanked the Polish State and government for providing all possible support forVietnamese nationals living in the country.
Followingthe talks, both leaders convened a press conference and witnessed the signingof the above memoranda of understanding, a MoU on cooperation between VietnamNews Agency and the Polish Press Agency, and a contract on pharmaceuticalsinvestment between Dat Vi Phu Vietnam company and the Adamed Group of Poland.
