Hanoi (VNA)ღ – A range of activities have been held by Vietnamese embassies abroad to commemorate President Ho Chi Minh on the occasion of his 135th birthday (May 19, 1890–2025).

On May 17, the Vietnamese Embassy in Romania hosted a solemn ceremony in memory of the late leader. The event was attended by embassy staff, representatives of Vietnamese associations in Romania, and Vietnamese students. Ambassador Do Duc Thanh and his spouse, along with other attendees, offered incense in tribute to President Ho Chi Minh—a national liberation hero and a great man of culture who dedicated his entire life to the independence, freedom, and well-being of the Vietnamese people. Following the incense-offering ceremony, they visited an exhibition hall highlighting President Ho Chi Minh’s official visit to Romania in August 1957. They also explored the “Ho Chi Minh Bookcase” at the embassy's headquarters and watched a documentary film on his life and revolutionary career.
In his remarks, Ambassador Thanh expressed deep admiration for President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example and noble personality. He paid heartfelt tribute to the leader, whose ideology guided Vietnam on its journey toward independence, freedom, socialism building, national reunification, renewal, and development. The ambassador called on all embassy staff, as well as the Vietnamese community in Romania, to continue studying and following the President’s ideology, moral example, and style. He also asked them to uphold solidarity and embrace their role as “people’s ambassadors” as in line with Uncle Ho’s guidance for overseas Vietnamese. Meanwhile, on May 19, the Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria organised a flower-laying ceremony on Ho Chi Minh Avenue, a scenic coastal boulevard near the central port area of Algiers capital. The ceremony drew Vietnamese diplomats, representatives from Vietnamese agencies in Algeria, members of the local Vietnamese community, and Algerian officials.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Tran Quoc Khanh noted that Algeria naming a major boulevard after President Ho Chi Minh was not only symbolic action but also a reflection of the profound admiration and respect Algerians hold for the Vietnamese leader—who has become a global symbol of the struggle for independence, freedom, and justice. He emphasised that the move also demonstrates the long-standing friendship between the two nations, which has been continuously strengthened throughout history. Djamel Belamou, Chairman of Raïs Hamidou—a surburb of Algiers where Ho Chi Minh Avenue is located, highlighted that President Ho Chi Minh was among the first world leaders to recognise Algeria’s provisional government, in 1958, during its fight for independence. He expressed Raïs Hamidou's pride in hosting a memorial plaque on the avenue and reaffirmed the ward's readiness to welcome Vietnamese delegations coming to commemorate the late leader.
Earlier the same day, the embassy held a flag-saluting ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification. Participants also offered incense and flowers to President Ho Chi Minh at the embassy’s space dedicated to him./.
