A memorial ceremonyheld for them drew the participation of representatives of the provincial PartyCommittee, People’s Council, People’s Committee and Vietnam Fatherland Frontchapter.
Speaking at the event,held on the occasion of the 71st War Invalids and Martyrs Day,Deputy Chairman of the Binh Phuoc People’s Committee Nguyen Tien Dung affirmedthat locals have taken various concrete acts to show their gratitude to thosewho sacrificed their lives to national independence and freedom. The official alsostressed that the search for remains of the martyrs in the battlefields and theirburial in the homeland have always enjoyed great attention from localauthorities.
The Invalids andMartyrs Day is a special chance for the entire country to commemorate millionsof martyrs and war invalids who sacrificed their lives and health during thewars.
In 1947, just two years after President Ho ChiMinh delivered the declaration of independence of Vietnam, the first decree onpreferential policies for war invalids and fallen soldiers was issued.
The same year, July 27 was designated as thenational war invalids day, which was later renamed the War Invalids and MartyrsDay, to call on the entire community to support war invalids and martyrs’families in acknowledgement of their contributions to the nation.-VNA
The memorial service for Nguyen Ba Thanh, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Internal Affairs, was organised in the central city of Da Nang on February 16.
A memorial service for the acclaimed French-Vietnamese painter Le Ba Dang was held at his namesake arts foundation in the central province of Thua Thien – Hue on March 9, two days after his death in Paris.
The southern province of Long An on July 25 held a ceremony to commemorate and rebury the remains of 25 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who laid down their lives during the wartime in Cambodia.
As many as 186 sets of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who laid down during the wartime were reburied at the Hill 82 Martyrs’ Cemetery in the southern province of Tay Ninh on July 26.
A web page containing information on martyrs and where they are buried has been built, making it easier for those who are desperately looking for information about their beloved ones.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
The festival highlighted the contributions and robust development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century while promoting press products and showcasing the creativity of Vietnamese journalists.
