Singapore approves Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for use

Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced on December 14 that the country had approved the use of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and German firm BioNTech, with the first shipment due to arrive in Singapore by the end of December.

Singapore (VNA) – Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loongannounced on December 14 that the country had approved the use of the COVID-19vaccine developed by US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and German firm BioNTech,with the first shipment due to arrive in Singapore by the end of December.

In a televised address on Singapore’s COVID-19 situation,Lee said that this makes Singapore one of the first countries to obtain thisvaccine, adding that other vaccines are expected to arrive in Singapore in thecoming months.

"If all goes according to plan, we will have enoughvaccines for everyone in Singapore by the third quarter of 2021," he said.

To assure the vaccine is safe, Lee said that he and seniorofficials will be the first to be injected.

Vaccinations will be free for all Singaporeans as well aslong-term residents currently in Singapore, he added./.
