Singapore grounds Boeing 787-10 jets following inspection

Hanoi (VNA) – Singapore Airlines announced on April 2 that it has groundedtwo of its Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner aircraft after discovering a defect duringinspection.

In itslatest statement, the carrier said the decision was made after thedeterioration of some engine blades had been detected. The planes were groundedpending the replacement of the engines.

Someflights to destinations served by the 787-10 fleet have been affected, it said.

Thecity-state’s flag carrier was the launch customer for the model, which has amaximum capacity of 339 passengers. It has nine 787-10 aircraft in its fleetand started operating them last year.

Boeing’s737 MAX planes were grounded globally last month following two deadly crashes thatoccurred in the past six months.

Scrutinyhas centred on an anti-stall system developed specifically for the planes.

Singaporewas one of the first countries to ban 737 MAX planes from its airspacefollowing the crash of one of the models operated by Ethiopian Airlines onMarch 15. –VNA
