Singapore (VNA) –
꧃Singapore’s population only rose 0.1percent in the past year, the lowest rate in a decade, according to a reportreleased by the country’s National Population and Talent Division (NPTD).

The report on September 27 noted that by the end of June 2017, thecountry is home to 5.61 million people, a slight increase from the figure of5.6 million in the previous year. Of the number, citizens and permanentresidents only increased by 32,200 to 3.96 million people. According to the NPTD, there were 1.64 million international studentsand people granted work permits in Singapore in 2017, down 1.6 percentyear-on-year. A population survey showed that Singapore’s total fertility rate fellfrom 1.24 percent in 2015 to 1.2 percent in 2016 and stood at 0.98 percent thisyear.-VNA
