State leader praises role of handicraft artisans, workers in cultural promotion

Hanoi (VNA) – President Vo Van Thuong met with over 100 outstandinghandicraft artisans and workers who are attending the Vietnam Craft Villages Preservation and Development Festival 2023, in Hanoi on November 9.
The artisansand workers said that thanks to national reforms, craftvillages and products of traditional crafts now have enormous chances to reachinternational markets, thereby contributing to national socio-economicdevelopment, their families’ livelihoods, and job creation.
They heldthat the Party and State’s guidelines and policies have greatly helped craftvillages to develop strongly and villagers to improve their life quality.
To develop further, traditional craft villages need support and assistance from theParty and State via appropriate policies, especially in terms of accessing and applyingscientific and technological advances, bringing into play their initiatives,helping artisans and workers capitalise on local material sources, and teachingtraditional craft to the young, they noted.
Praisingfine handicrafts of Vietnam, President Thuong highly valued the development ofcraft villages over the past years, which has created jobs for people,especially rural residents, and helped preserve and promote the country’scultural values.
The Stateleader said craft villages not only create livelihoods for people and contribute to local socio-economic development but also are the spaces to preserve and promote cultural and historical values of the localities. He hailed the dedication by artisans and workers and considered them asthe soul of their craft villages. He called on them to keep upholding theircrafts, improving their skills, and training following generations tocontribute to the Vietnamese culture.
At themeeting, President Thuong asked relevant ministries and sectors to continueperfecting mechanisms and policies to boost the development of craft villages,better treatment for handicraft artisans and workers, encourage innovation inhandicraft production, and develop tourism craft villages. They were also toldto continue considering the recognition of excellent artisans and workers./.
The Vietnam Craft Villages Festival 2023 will take place in Hanoi from October to November to preserve and promote the values of traditional craft villages, the organising board said at a press conference on September 26.
As Mid-Autumn Festival fast approaches on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, craft villages making festival lanterns are swamped with orders. A good example of this is the Bao Dap village in Nam Truc district, Nam Dinh province.
Xieng hamlet in the central province of Nghe An is renowned for its fermented mixed-leaf wine, a traditional beverage made by the Thai ethnic minority in Vietnam. The drink is made from 20 to 30 different types of plants and herbs and boasts various health benefits.
