Storm Wipha lands in Quang Ninh, weakens to tropical depression
Storm Wipha, the third tropical storm to hit Vietnam this year, made landfall in the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh on August 2 night and has weaken to a tropical depression, delivering drenching rains and strong gusts to northern and north-central localities.

Hanoi (VNA) – Storm Wipha, the third tropicalstorm to hit Vietnam this year, made landfall in the northern coastalprovince of Quang Ninh on August 2 night and has w📖eaken to a tropicaldepression, delivering drenching rains and strong gusts to northern andnorth-central localities.
Rainfall was measuredat reach 209mm in Mong Cai, Quang Ninh, and 165mm in Mau Son, Lang Son province. The strongest windlevel near the tropical depression’s eye was estimated at 40 to 50km per hour,according to National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting at 7amon August 3. The depression isforecast to move in the west and southwest direction at the speed of 10km perhour and continue to weaken when it reaches the south of northern delta. The centre warnedthat localities from the northern region to central province of Thanh Hoa,especially uplands areas, stand high risks of floods, flash floods andlandslides. A fishing boat sunkat Bach Dang Port in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh on August 2 night, causing hugeproperty damages. No human losses were reported. In Thanh Hoa province,a village chief has reportedly died due to landslides in Muong Lat district.Thirty four houses in Quan Hoa and Quan Son districts suffered from damage. — VNA
A tropical depression in the northern part of the East Sea has strengthened into a typhoon, becoming the third one to hit the region this year, announced the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting on July 31.
Storm Wipha, the third to hit Vietnam this year, is expected to cause rain, whirlwind and flood in the northeast, north, and central regions between August 1 and 4, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Vietnam Airlines has announced it will cancel five flights on the route between the northern port city of Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City on August 2 due to storm Wipha, which is forecast to hit waters offshore and inland areas of northern localities from Quang Ninh to Nam Dinh on August 2 and 3.
Vietjet Air and Jetstar Pacific have announced adjustments to their flight schedules on August 2 and 3 as storm Wipha is approaching the northern coast, bringing big rain and strong wind to the northeast, north, and central regions between August 1 and 4.
The Cat Bi airport in the northern port city of Hai Phong and Van Don airport in the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh will be temporarily closed from 12:00 on August 2 to 12:00 on August 3 due to the approaching storm Wipha.
