Student exchange marks New Year festivals of Laos and Cambodia

HCM City (VNA) - The Ho Chi MinhCommunist Youth Union in Ho Chi Minh City on April 11 celebrated the Lao Bunpimayfestival and the Cambodian Chol Chnam Thmay festival.
Theevent featured traditional art performances of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, aswell as Laos and Cambodia’s rituals like thread tying on wrist and water-splashing towish for a year of happiness and prosperity.
Nguyen Huu Hiep, head of the municipal Party Committee’s mass mobilistionboard, delivered New Year greetings to Lao and Cambodian students who are studyingin the city.
He affirmed that city leaders always pay attention to organising studentexchange events, creating opportunities for students to better understand culturaltradition in each nation and the history of the friendship among the threecountries.
Hiep expressed his hope that the students will continue to treasure the ties,making contributions to building prosperous countries toward an ASEAN Communityof peace, cooperation and development.
Currently, there are some 500 Lao and Cambodian students in Ho Chi Minh City.
TheBunpimay and Chol Chnam Thmay festivals fall on April 14 to 16, with severalritual ceremonies praying for good weather, an abundant harvest and aprosperous New Year.-VNA
People across Laos and Cambodia have been on cloud nine with vibrant cultural activities held during their traditional New Year festivals according to the Buddhist calendar.
The Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association of northern Thai Nguyen province on April 9 hosted a celebration of the traditional New Year Festival of Laos – Bunpimay – for Lao students in the province.
A lot of activities are taking place across southern provinces to celebrate the Khmer ethnic group’s Chol Chnam Thmay (New Year) festival, which falls on April 14-16.
A ceremony was held at Pho Minh Pagoda, Ho Chi Minh City on April 11 to celebrate the traditional New Year festival of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
The festival highlighted the contributions and robust development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century while promoting press products and showcasing the creativity of Vietnamese journalists.
The programme on sustainable poverty reduction has achieved its annual targets for reducing the poverty rate as assigned by the National Assembly and the Government. It has fulfilled five specific objectives and five five-year goals, and met nine out of 12 indicators related to addressing basic social service shortages.

Today, the press for foreign service has evolved into a distinct, irreplaceable force, bridging Vietnam with the world and portraying a nation that is stable, peace-loving, and fully integrated into the international community.
At a review conference held on June 21, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh praised the province’s scientific, coordinated, and flexible approach. He noted that the early completion reflects the strong commitment of local authorities, the business community, philanthropists, and residents in improving housing conditions for disadvantaged groups.
The VNA delegation, led by General Director Vu Viet Trang, actively participated in the event, engaging in both professional and diplomatic activities.
