Thai Gov’t follows int’l codes in taking care of foreign workers

The Prime Minister of Thailand has urged foreigners who seek employment in Thailand to apply for a work permit before the end of June, stressing that the government strictly follows the international rule of law when taking care of alien workers in the Kingdom.

- The Prime Minister ofThailand has urged foreigners who seek employment in Thailand to apply for awork permit before the end of June, stressing that the government strictlyfollows the international rule of law when taking care of alien workers in theKingdom. 

He reminded local employers of the importance of registeringalien workers including those from Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar. He alsounderlined that the process will help Thailand keep track of foreign workers inthe nation and provide assistance for them more effectively. 

The Thai Ministry of Labour earlier set up one-stop servicecentres across the country to facilitate the registration process which endedon March 31.

Migrant workers whose nationalities and medical conditions have not beenchecked will have to go through all procedures untilthe end of June. Those who have not completed the process are urged to contacta one-stop service center. 

A total of 1.3 million migrant workers have registered withthe government from February 5 to March 31. About 960,000 of them have beenverified and can stay in the Kingdom until 2020. The remaining 470,000 must beprocessed before the end of June.-VNA
