Bangkok (VNA) – The National Legislative Assembly ofThailand approved the National Strategy which will be legally binding for 20years to all government agencies and public organisations on July 6.
The 20-year National Strategy, which received179/0 votes with four abstentions, will be submitted to King Vajiralongkorn –Rama X for approval by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
After that, the National Strategy Committee willdraft a master plan covering all the six strategic areas in the law, namelysecurity, competitiveness enhancement, social equality, human resourcesdevelopment, green growth and rebalancing, and public sector development.
Under the strategy, all government agencies andpublic organisations are required to comply with the master plan, and budgetallocations must be in line with the plan.
Compliance with the national strategy will bemonitored by the National Strategy Committee, and the National Anti-CorruptionCommission will be notified if there is non-compliance.
The national strategy will be reviewed everyfive years and may be changed in accordance with global or national situationsbut a parliamentary review must be sought first.
The law has been heavily criticised by politicalparties, especially Pheu Thai and Future Forward, for being a tool to ensureprolonged stay in power of the military junta.-VNA
