Thailand to hold election after coronation ceremony for new king
Thailand will hold the general election only after the coronation ceremony for the new King Vajiralongkorn, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha said on June 19.

Bangkok (VNA) –Thailand will hold the general election only after the coronationceremony for the new King Vajiralongkorn, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha saidon June 19.
However, he did notreveal the specific time for the coronation.
Speaking after theweekly cabinet meeting, the PM called on Thai people to keep peace and order onthe threshold of the royal ceremony.
King Vajiralongkornassumed the throne after the death of his father in 2016, but he is yet to holdan official coronation ceremony.
Earlier on May 22, PMPrayut Chan-ocha reiterated that the general election will take place in early2019 and no sooner, rejecting the possibility of an earlier election asrequested by the opposition party.
The military government initially promised to hold a general election in 2015but has pushed back the date several times.
The Thai PM on May 1 reassured that the general election will be definitelyheld in early 2019. The statement was made amid the anti-junta activists’warning to stage a large-scale demonstration in May.
It was not the first time the chief of the Thai military government promisedthat the election would take place no later than February 2019.
The PM said the election has been postponed several times due to legal processand the international community would understand it.-VNA
