Bangkok (VNA) 🃏– Thailand on March 15 began a human trafficking trial with 92 defendants who were arrested by Thai authorities after mass graves of illegal migrants were found in the southern Thai jungle near the Malaysian border last year.

Among the defendants were an army general and a number of policemen.
The case came to light after more than 30 shallow graves were discovered in southern Thailand. The bodies were believed to be Rohingya Muslim migrants from Myanmar. Thai police also found 139 other graves along the border with Malaysia weeks later.
The discovery of the mass graves led to a crackdown on human trafficking gangs, believed to be widespread in southern Thai provinces and Malaysia. The Thai attorney general's office said the trial proceedings would last about a year.-VNA
