Among the defendants were an army general and a number of policemen.
The case came to light after more than 30 shallow graves were discovered in southern Thailand. The bodies were believed to be Rohingya Muslim migrants from Myanmar.
Thai police also found 139 other graves along the border with Malaysia weeks later.
The discovery of the mass graves led to a crackdown on human trafficking gangs, believed to be widespread in southern Thai provinces and Malaysia.
The Thai attorney general's office said the trial proceedings would last about a year.-VNA
As many as 10 countries agreed to assist Indonesia in tackling issues related to Rohingya immigrants with different support forms, according to the Indonesian Foreign Ministry.
