Thailand discovers new rare plant species

A new species of flowering plant has been discovered by a group of researchers at Thailand's Chiang Mai University's Faculty of Science.

Bangkok (VNA) ꦺ- A new species of floweringplant has been discovered by a group of researchers at Thailand's Chiang Mai University'sFaculty of Science.

The species was found in Narathiwat province, one of the southern localilties of the country and shares a border with Malaysia.

The plant has been named in honour of the Thai-bornK-pop singer Lalisa "Lisa" Manoban, who is a member of the Republicof Korean girl group, Blackpink. One of the members of the research team wasinspired by Lisa to pursue her doctorate degree.

🐓 The plant, which belongs to the Annonaceae family, is fragrant. Due to itsextreme rarity, it is at one of the highest risks of extinction.

The project is aimed at studying the taxonomy andevolution of rare and unknown plants in the Annonaceae family in Thailand forconservation, with support from the Thailand Science Research and Innovation./.

Thai Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Vuttikrai Leewiraphan Thailand's formal proposal will be substantial enough for the US to consider further detailed negotiations.
