Thailand plans to reopen nation, support SMEs

Bangkok (VNA) - Thai Prime Minister PrayutChan-o-cha chaired a meeting of the Centre for Economic Situation Administration(CESA) to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and make decisions toovercome the consequences and stabilise the macro-economy.

At the conference, CESM approved a nationaltourism industry reopening plan. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has proposed anopening plan with the goal of promoting the results of the Phuket project,aiming to attract 1 million visitors in the fourth quarter of 2021 and thefirst quarter of 2022, generating revenue of about 60 billion baht (1.8billion USD).

Meanwhile, CESM also adopted the proposal to establish a Tourism Promotion Fund to transformThailand's tourism industry, and announced the Thailand Tourism Year 2022.

In addition, Secretary-General of theNational Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) Danucha Pichayanan said the new support measures will see the government hand out 3,000 baht amonth to each worker from November 2021 to January 2022.

The measure will cover 480,122 SMEs, which are expected to help retainemployees and create new jobs for a total of 5.04 million workers./.
