Thailand prepares to crown King Maha Vajiralongkorn
Some 150,000 hats have been prepared for the public who line the seven-kilometre stretch of road to welcome King Vajiralongkorn-Rama X during the royal procession after a coronation ceremony on May 5.

Bangkok (VNA) – Some 150,000 hats have been prepared for the public wholine the seven-kilometre stretch of road to welcome King Vajiralongkorn-Rama Xduring the royal procession after a coronation ceremony on May 5.
Police Strategy Office Commissioner Lieutenant General Kraiboon Suadsong saidon May 2 that the Thai authority will open 22 screening points where the hatswould be handed out at noon so people could sit at 23 zones along the route towelcome the procession by 3:30 pm.
King Vajiralongkorn will be officially crowned as the 10th king of the Chakridynasty on May 4 after ascending the throne following the death of his father,King Bhumibol Adulyadej, on October 13, 2016.
Preparation for the coronation of King Vajiralongkorn began several months ago.Those days, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the Ministry of SocialDevelopment and Human Security and the Ministry of Education are organisingvarious cultural activities to welcome the King’s coronation.
The three-day coronation, a mix of Buddhist religious ceremonies and HinduBrahmin rituals, will begin with the purification bath on May 4. Sacred waterto be used in the ceremony will be collected from five main streams of BangPakong, Pasak, Chao Phraya, Ratchaburi and Phetchaburi and four ponds of SaKet, Sa Kaeo, Sa Khongkha and Sa Yamuna in Suphan Buri province.
The King will lay himself in water brought from 107 important sites in 76provinces and from the Grand Palace before the assumption ceremony. He willthen issue his first command, join a procession to greet the public and meetwith diplomatic delegations in Bangkok.-VNA
