Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand saw arecord 51 COVID-19 fatalities over the past 24 hours, bringing the total to1,774, the country’s Ministry of Public Health announced on June 23.

Meanwhile, 3,174 new cases were detected onthe day, raising the national count to 228,539. Since the current COVID-19 wavebegan in early April, Thailand has logged 199,676 infections and 1,650 deaths.

Meanwhile, beds designated for patients incritical condition at all state-run hospitals in Bangkok are now fully occupiedby COVID-19 infected patients with severe symptoms, while the last 20 of suchbeds are strictly reserved for emergency patients, health authorities said on June22.

Dr Somsak Akksilp, Director-General of theDepartment of Medical Services said that under the current circumstances,infected patients' access to hospital beds with life-saving equipment hasbecome extremely limited.

Over the past couple of months, Bangkok andits surrounding provinces have continued to record more than 1,000 new cases ofCOVID-19 infections per day.

Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has orderedthe Public Health Ministry to ensure there are enough hospital beds toaccommodate the large number of infected patients./.
