Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - The Thai government has launched the Thailand Summer Festivals, a seven-month tourism project aimed at sustaining year-round travel.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra officially inaugurated the campaign last week, joined by Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong and Culture Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol. As part of the Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025, the campaign will run from March to September, featuring a series of festivals aimed at keeping tourism activity steady beyond peak periods.

The “7 Months, 7 Wonders Summer Festivals” concept includes themed events such as the Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2025, a large-scale celebration of Thailand’s UNESCO-listed Songkran traditions from April 11 to 15 at Sanam Luang in Bangkok. Other festival categories include Pride celebrations, cultural showcases, music festivals, sports events, food festivals, and creative arts exhibitions. These events will be held nationwide, ensuring tourism benefits extend to major cities and emerging destinations.

ꦅ The campaign involves collaborations with international event organizers to elevate local festivals into globally recognized attractions. Large-scale music festivals, culinary showcases, and sporting events will further establish Thailand as a top destination for entertainment, culture, and leisure tourism. Officials anticipate the campaign will draw millions of domestic and international visitors, boosting tourism demand and bringing economic benefits to local communities.

With tourism accounting for over 14% of Thailand’s GDP, the government is now focusing on infrastructure development and long-term strategies to support sustainable industry growth. The Thailand Summer Festivals are projected to generate 3.5 trillion THB (100 billion USD) in tourism revenue./.
