Bangkok (VNA) – The Thai media said on August 19 reportedthat Thai and Myanmar officials plan to sign a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) that will take Thai energy giant PTT a step closer to a major gas projectacross the border.

The MoU signing will take place on the sidelines of themeeting of ASEAN energy ministers slated for September 2017 in Manila, thePhilippines.

Permanent Secretary of the Thai Ministry of Energy AreepongBhoocha-oom said the signing of the agreement will pave the way for PTT toconduct a study on a 20 billion THB project on a 3-million-tonne liquefiednatural gas floating storage and import in the southern city of Kanbauk.

The project is scheduled to come on stream by 2027 andits gas will be transported to Thailand’s western plants to improve thenation’s energy security.-VNA
