Thanh Hoa (VNA) – National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man requested the north-central province of Thanh Hoa to continue taking effective measures to fully tap its potential and advantages to boost economic growth while attending the 20th session of the 18th-tenure provincial People’s Council for 2021-2026 on July 8.

Man highly valued the province's relatively comprehensive results achieved in the first half of this year, including an economic growth rate estimated at 11.5% - the third highest in the country. During the period, the province saw 1,364 new enterprises established, ranking 8th nationwide and first in the north-central region. It also topped the nation in terms of public investment disbursement.

He said that at the recent seventh session, the NA adopted a resolution on the national marine spatial planning for 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, which provides a legal basis for maximising the maritine potential and advantages of Vietnam, including Thanh Hoa with 18,000 sq.km. of sea surface. Meanwhile, the parliament has issued resolutions on specific mechanisms and policies for only more than 10 localities, including Thanh Hoa. This is a favourable condition for faciliating the province's socio-economic development, he went on.

The Chairman required Thanh Hoa to take effective measures to develop agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and goods production associated with the new-style rural area building; concentrate on constructing and managing green industrial zones and clusters; and turn tourism into a leading economic sector by developing high-quality products linked with local marine tourism advantages.

The province also needs to increase the mobilisation, allocation, and efficient utilisation of resources; boost investment in transportation and socio-economic infrastructure; speed up administrative reform; and implement solutions for ensuring the most effective management and use of public investment, Man stated.

The top legislator highlighted the necessity for Thanh Hoa to strengthen the management and efficient use of natural resources, protect the environment, and respond to climate change by gradually reducing greenhouse gas emissions and environmental pollution. He urged the province to promptly construct plants for treating household and medical waste, given the fact that approximately 400-500 tonnes of waste are released each day but there is still a lack of modern waste treatment facilities.

He made it clear that waste treatment plants would significantly minimise environmental pollution, helping residents feel comfortable and attracting more tourists to Thanh Hoa.

He went on to say that it is necessary to combine socio-economic and cultural development with national defence, security safeguarding, and foreign affairs. He also stressed the importance of caring for the material and spiritual lives of local people and promoting the sense of responsibility among officials and civil servants.

Unity and consensus, along with democracy, impartiality, and selflessness are essential principles that must be adhered to with the goal of serving the people, the country, and the province's sustainable development, Man said, asking Thanh Hoa to make preparations for the Party congresses at all levels and the elections of deputies to all-level People's Councils for the 2026 - 2031 term.

🐷 The 20th session of the 18th-tenure provincial People’s Council will last to July 10, during which it is expected to review and make decisions about major issues within its jurisdiction./.
