UK Prime Minister David Cameron has agreed to provide Cambodia with three maps issued by the Indochina geography service during the 1933-1953 period, reported the National Television of Cambodia on August 25. In reply to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen’s letter, on August 21, Cameron affirmed that no original map of Cambodia as requested by PM Hun Sen was found, however, there are three maps scaling 1:100,000 stored in its library.
The UK is willing to supply Cambodia with the maps if requested, he wrote. Hun Sen said he will ask diplomatic agencies to conduct procedures for borrowing the maps.
Earlier on July 15, Hun Sen sent letters to leaders of the UK , France and the US asking for cooperation and provision of the original map that the late King Norodom Sihanouk submitted to the United Nations in order to help the country’s border demarcation. Last week, the Cambodian Government received 18 pieces of the map provided by the UN Secretary General. Verification results showed that the map is identical with the one that the Cambodian Government is using for border demarcation with Vietnam.-VNA
