Phnom Penh (VNA) – The US-ASEAN Business Council will help Cambodiain managing its tourism sector, diversifying and developing tourism productsthrough investment projects.

The statement was made by Michael W. Michalak, Vice President of the Council athis meeting with Cambodian Tourism Minister Thong Khon on the sidelines of theASEAN Tourism Forum recently held in Brunei, according to Rasmey Kampuchea (Lightof Cambodia) newspaper.

The help aims to promote the implementation of tourism standards of ASEAN andCambodia within the multilateral and ASEAN cooperation frameworks, according toMichalak.

In addition, the US-ASEAN Business Council intends to support professionalcapacity enhancement and human resources development for the country’s tourismsector, thereby helping improve locals’ livelihoods and reduce poverty via projectson community-based tourism development and public-private-partnershipcooperation.

According to the Tourism Ministry, the number of international tourist arrivalsto Cambodia was estimated at 6.6 million in 2019. In the previous year, thecountry welcomed 6.2 foreign visitors./.
