Hanoi (VNA) 🌊– Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang paid a working visit to Estonia from May 27-28, during which she held a series of meetings with senior officials from the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant agencies to bolster bilateral cooperation.

At a working session with Estonia’s Undersecretary for Political Affairs Martin Roger and Director General of the Department for Asia, the Pacific, the Middle East and Africa Kristi Karelsohn, both sides reviewed the current state of Vietnam – Estonia relations and discussed orientations for future collaboration. They acknowledged the positive momentum in bilateral ties and recognised significant untapped potential. The two sides agreed to enhance coordination through established dialogue mechanisms and regular exchanges of delegations at all levels. In the near term, they committed to preparing for upcoming high-level visits, viewing them as important political drivers to make the relationship more effective and substantive.
The two foreign ministries also agreed to facilitate connections among relevant ministries, localities, and business communities in Vietnam and Estonia, thereby creating favourable conditions for establishing concrete cooperation projects. Hang affirmed that Vietnam values its friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Estonia. She praised Estonia’s dynamic development and notable achievements, particularly in digital transformation, and expressed Vietnam’s interest in learning from Estonia’s experience in building a digital government, digital society, and smart governance—areas that align closely with the country’s national digital transformation strategy. For his part, Martin Roger commended Vietnam’s growing regional and global influence, describing it as a key partner for Estonia in the Asia-Pacific region. He expressed his hope that the two foreign ministries would soon convene a deputy minister-level political consultation, a regular dialogue mechanism on strategic orientations and international and regional issues of shared concern.
Estonia also expressed its desire to sign a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the two foreign ministries to establish a formal framework for more comprehensive collaboration. Estonia said it wants to strengthen its ties with Southeast Asian countries and enhance its presence in the ASEAN region, viewing ASEAN as a dynamic and strategically significant region with substantial development potential. The country also affirmed its readiness to work closely with Vietnam—an active and respected ASEAN member—to facilitate broader regional engagement. Both sides agreed to maintain regular dialogue mechanisms, increase information exchange, and strengthen cooperation in priority areas such as digital transformation, education, innovation, cybersecurity, and sustainable development. /.
