Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam – Japandefence ties have received significant attention from leaders of the twocountries and grown well, according to Vietnamese Defence Minister Ngo XuanLich.
He made the statement at a reception forJapanese Ambassador to Vietnam Umeda Kunio in Hanoi on March 28.
Lich said the progress has brought aboutmutual benefits and contributed to peace, stability and development in theregion and the world.
The minister suggested bilateral defencecooperation should focus on military health care, search and rescue, naturaldisaster prevention, bomb clearance and dioxin detoxification.
For his part, Umeda Kunio lauded Vietnam’srole in the region, stressing that defence engagements between Vietnam andJapan have grown significantly in recent years.
The diplomat said Japan is considering providingmore aid for Vietnam to overcome the consequences of war.-VNA
The 5th Vietnam-Japan defence policy dialogue took place in the south central province of Khanh Hoa’s Nha Trang city on August 30 under the co-chair of Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen
Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Defence Nguyen Chi Vinh and his Japanese counterpart Ro Manabe agreed that the China-ASEAN Code of Conduct (COC) on the East Sea should be effective and legally binding.
Effective defence cooperation between Vietnam and Japan, including the ties between the two ground forces, has contributed importantly to the bilateral friendship.
Vietnamese and Japanese armies need to enhance cooperation in delegation exchanges, policy dialogues, training, experience sharing and UN peacekeeping activities.
Stronger efforts and determination are required to achieve and surpass the set targets, especially in the eradication of makeshift and dilapidated houses nationwide, the acceleration of public investment disbursement, and the implementation of nationally important transport projects, PM Pham Minh Chinh noted.
The trip will be made at the invitations of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and WEF President and CEO Børge Brende, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Long spoke highly of the dynamic, positive, and comprehensive development of Vietnam – Russia relations in recent years.
