(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked Japan for further helping Vietnam improvecapacity in law-making and develop a pool of skilled legal and judicial expertsduring his meeting with visiting Japanese Minister of Justice Furukawa Yoshihisa in Hanoi on June 30.
The PM also proposedJapan support Vietnam in accelerating digital transformation in justice and capacitybuilding in defending international legal cases, particularly in the fields ofpolitics, trade and economy.
He affirmed that theGovernment of Vietnam is providing all enabling conditions to strengthen legaland judicial cooperation between the two ministries of justice, which plays apart in stepping up the Vietnam – Japan extensive strategic partnership.
Describing Japan asVietnam’s long-term, trusted and leading partner which shares many commonstrategic benefits with Vietnam, PM Chinh said Vietnam backs Japan in playing arole in maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the world and the region.
Japan has remained Vietnam’slargest ODA provider and second biggest destination for Vietnamese guestworkers and among the country’s top investors and trade partners, he said,adding that the two countries have seen expansion in collaboration in digitaltransformation, science and technology, environment, agriculture, personneltraining and COVID-19 response.
He suggested the twosides continue taking joint efforts to protect legitimate rights and benefitsof Vietnamese nationals living in Japan and vice versa, contributing to bolsteringthe growing relations between the two countries.
The PM hoped that Japanwould prioritise and expand its labour trainee programmes for Vietnamese guestworkers and help further improve their skills and competency.
At the meeting (Photo: VNA) The Vietnamese leaderexpected the two sides to increase cultural and people-to-people exchanges and all-levelmeetings and coordinate to hold major events in celebration of the 50th founding anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties in 2023.
Yoshihisasaid he is honoured to contribute to expanding the two countries’ relationshipbased on “sincerity, affection and trust”, as well as increasing the “heart-to-heart”understanding between their leaders and people.
He said Japan willsupport and share experience with Vietnam in justice, human resourcesdevelopment, law-making and digital transformation; and provide the bestconditions for Vietnamese people living in Japan.
The two sides laterexchanged views on several regional and global issues of mutual concerns. The Japaneseminister confirmed Japan’s support for Vietnam and ASEAN’s stance on settlingmaritime disputes via peaceful means based on international laws, including the1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and ensuring security, safety and freedom of aviation and navigation at sea./.
