HCM City (VNA) –🍸 Vietnameseartist Tran Thi Thanh Nhan, better known as Ly Nha Ky, was named the HonoraryConsul of Romania in Ho Chi Minh City at a ceremony held in the city on June26.
Nhan will serve a four-year term. On the occasion, the Romanian ForeignAffairs Minister Teodor Malescanu sent congratulatory messages to the newRomanian Honorary Consul in HCM City. He stressed that the ceremony washeld as Vietnam and Romania want to promote bilateral cooperation based on theirtraditional friendship and mutual interests, along with support of Vietnamesestudents who studied in Romania. The Romanian diplomat also affirmed hiscountry’s commitment to boosting the two nations’ political, economic andcultural relations, adding that the appointment shows the country’s wish toconsolidate bilateral ties, especially in trade. For her part, Nhan vowed to spare noefforts to deepen relations between Vietnam and Romania as well as Romania andHCM City in particular. Establishingbilateral diplomatic ties on February 3, 1950, Vietnam and Romania havefacilitated regular high-level visits and worked together at global forums andorganisations. Bilateraltrade revenue hit 150 million USD in 2014, approximately two thirds of whichwas from Vietnamese exports. The revenue increased to 170 million USD in 2015,with Vietnam exporting goods worth about 102 million USD to Romania. Morethan 4,000 Vietnamese engineers and experts in various fields have receivedtraining in Romania. -VNA
Ambassador to Italy and the Republic of Cyprus Cao Chinh Thien suggested the Vietnamese and Cyprus Governments soon negotiate the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on matters regarding Vietnamese labourers in the island country.
The Embassy of Mexico in Vietnam held a ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City on May 18 to introduce the Honorary Consul of Mexico to HCM City, Vu Minh Anh, and inaugurate the Honorary Consul’s office in the city.
