Phnom Penh (VNA) -🐲 The Bank for Investment and Development of Cambodia (BIDC), a subsidiary of Vietnamese bank BIDV, has awarded 25 full scholarships worth 200.000 USD in total to outstanding Cambodian students facing financial difficulties.

The scholarships are part of the “BIDC Scholarship” programme, launched in collaboration with Cambodia’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport. It aims to support talented students in pursuing higher education. Each scholarship, valued at 8,000 USD, covers tuition fees and living expenses for four years. One-third is allocated to tuition, paid directly to universities, while the rest is transferred to students’ accounts at BIDC as living allowances.
Addressing the award ceremony in Phnom Penh on February 20, BIDC General Director Lam Van Hai reaffirmed the bank’s strong sense of social responsibility, stating that BIDC believes education is key to a sustainable future. Over the years, the bank has funded school construction, donated medical equipment, and provided scholarships for Cambodian students studying locally and abroad.

Chuon Chivin, Secretary of State of Cambodia’s Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport, praised BIDC’s contributions to education and human resources development in Cambodia, expressing his hope for continued collaboration to expand educational opportunities for Cambodian students. Representing scholarship recipients, Phon Sovanthy, a first-year IT student from a struggling family, expressed gratitude to the bank, saying the funding relieves his family’s financial burden and enables him to focus on his study. Established in 2009, BIDC is the largest Vietnamese commercial bank in Cambodia, with total assets nearing 1 billion USD. In addition to its headquarters in Phnom Penh, the bank operates nine branches, including two in Vietnam and two in other Cambodian localities./.
