VNA seeks to increase ethnic minority pictorial’s quality

– The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) organised a conferencein Mekong delta Can Tho city on September 22 to seek measures to improve thequality of its Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Region Pictorial in the southernregion.

TheEthnic Minority and Mountainous Region Pictorial is the only bilingual pressproduct serving ethnic minority communities across 45 provinces in the countrywith 75,000 copies each monthly edition.

Currently,the pictorial newspaper has 12 bilingual versions in Vietnamese and 12 ethniclanguages.

VNAGeneral Director Nguyen Duc Loi said that playing the role as a news bank servingthe entire press system, the VNA hopes that its publications disseminate thegreat national unity policy and help the ethnic minorities understand the Partyand State’s consistent policies on the ethnic and religion-related issues.

Therefore,the agency wants to coordinate closely with localities where the EthnicMinority and Mountainous Region Pictorial is available to improve its qualityand ensure the publication can reach its readers and increase disseminationefficiency.

Atthe conference, representatives from ministries, sectors and localities contributedideas to improve the quality of the product, from format to content, and expandthe distribution network.

SonMinh Thang, deputy head of the Steering Committee for the Southwestern Region,asked the VNA to intensify disseminations on the implementation of the Partyand State’s policies, especially those dedicated to the ethnic minorities,regional connectivity.

HuynhThi Somaly from the Government Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs proposedthe pictorial balance appropriate contents about regions, increase the coverageof news involved in the ethnic minorities’ customs.

Itis also necessary to improve reporters’ awareness of customs and religions of eachgroup, re-check information with scholars who are ethnics, and invite freelancereporters who are ethnics to write about their groups’ customs, she said.-VNA
