Hanoi (VNA) –
Floods triggered by torrential rain in the last two weeks havesubmerged homes, roads and bridges, caused landslides and forced more than23,000 people to evacuate to shelters in northeastern Thailand.

The ThaiMeteorological Department (TMD) reported on September 14 that since August 29,32 people have been killed by floods.

Storm Poduland a tropical depression that formed in the East Sea called Kajiki are behindthe widespread floods, the department said.

The worst-hitprovince is Ubon Ratchathani, which borders Laos and Cambodia. Flooding in the province has been exacerbatedby rising water levels in the Moon and Chi rivers.

Thai PrimeMinister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered all armed forces to stand ready toassist effected people in the country’s northern and northeastern regions.

An estimatednumber of 4,000 soldiers and equipment are expected to be mobilised for the purpose./.
