Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) 𝔍- The 16th Party Congress of central Thua Thien-Hueprovince (2020-2025 tenure) opened on October 22, bringing together 350 delegatesrepresenting Party members across the locality.
The Congressheld a minute’s silence in tribute to officers, soldiers, and residents killedby floods and landslides in Thua Thien-Hue and other central provinces inrecent days. Addressing theCongress, Politburo member and Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly TongThi Phong, on behalf of the Party, the State, and the legislature, extended herdeepest sympathies over the losses caused by the natural disasters in theregion. She lauded ThuaThien-Hue’s prompt rescue efforts, which helped mitigate the losses. The official highlightedthe achievements the locality has posted over the last five years, with annual growthaveraging 6.5 percent and the economic structure tilting towards services andindustry. Tourism hasbecome an economic spearhead and the maritime economy has gradually become adevelopment engine of the locality, she continued. Phong urged ThuaThien-Hue to successfully materialise Resolution No 54 of the Politburo andResolution No 83 of the Government regarding the building and development ofthe province by 2030 with a vision to 2045. The provinceneeds to mobilise all resources to turn itself into a centrally-run city by2025 and a national and regional centre of culture, tourism, extensive healthcare,education-training, and science-technology. Local culturalpotential should be further optimised, she said, and asked the province todevelop agriculture towards high-technology and improve the quality ofnew-style rural area building and sustainable poverty reduction. Regarding Partybuilding, she said the task must be carried out synchronously and firmly interms of politics, ideology, organisation, and personnel. It was reportedat the Congress that annual per capita income in Thua Thien-Hue is expected tostand at 2,169 USD this year, ranking its third in the central coastal region. Its total socialinvestment in the 2016-2020 period reached some 105.1 trillion VND, with anannual growth rate of 11 percent. The servicesector made up 48 percent of the province’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP).Over the last five years, it has attracted 63 service and tourism projectsworth 76.7 trillion VND and 149 industrial projects with total registeredcapital of around 103 trillion VND. At the Congress,slated to wrap up on October 22, delegates also raised funds in support offlood victims./.
