Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on October 2 called for stronger determination and more drastic action to combat climate change, stressing that green transformation, energy transition, and greenhouse gas emission reduction are inevitable and irreversible trends.

Chairing the 5th session of the National Steering Committee tasked with delivering on Vietnam’s commitments made at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), PM Chinh, who is also its head, underscored the necessity of pooling global resources, green financing, and transferring technology and expertise. - Actions against climate change must be faster, especially those to realise commitments to emission reduction, emphasised Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, head of the National Steering Committee for implementing Vietnam’s commitments at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), while chairing the fifth meeting of the committee in Hanoi on October 2.

Opening the meeting, Chinh underlined that the meeting is taking place when the whole country is working hard to overcome consequences of Typhoon Yagi, showing the increasingly complicated and severe impacts of climate change and natural disasters. Read full story

- Vietnam is a key partner of the UN in general and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) in particular with great contributions to human development and sustainable growth in recent years, UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner told the Vietnam News Agency after Party General Secretary and State President To Lam’s recent US trip for the UN Summit of the Future and the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.

Steiner said that the 45-year partnership between Vietnam and the UNDP has evolved through different phases in Vietnam, and this experience has helped shape UNDP's current Country Programme to meet Vietnam’s specific needs. Read full story

- The official visit to France by Party General Secretary and President To Lam and his attendance at the 19th Francophonie Summit demonstrate Vietnam's strong bonds with the Francophone community and affirm that the country attaches importance to bilateral relations with the European country, said French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet.

In a recent interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency, the diplomat stressed that the top Vietnamese leader’s visit will offer an opportunity for France to affirm its desire to further strengthen partnership with Vietnam – a country with many historical ties with France and connections within the Francophone community. - The Vietnamese Embassy in Israel has recommended Vietnamese people living here to strictly adhere to the regulations and guidance regarding safety and security measures set by local authorities, given rocket attack risks from Iran.

In its notice, the embassy said that at 2pm (local time) on October 1, the Home Front Command of Israel issued new directives on security and safety guidance, which limit gatherings to 30 people in open spaces and 300 people in closed spaces, require the closure of beaches, and advise individuals to reach a protected space within 90 seconds. The directives, applied for both northern and central Israel, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, will be in effect until October 5 at 8pm. Read full story

- Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ha Kim Ngoc and his Argentine counterparts Marcia Rosa Levaggi and Gabriel Martinez co-chaired the ninth political consultation between the two ministries, during his working trip from September 29-October 1.

On the first day of his trip, Ngoc paid tribute to late President Ho Chi Minh at his monument in the capital city of Buenos Aires. Read full story

- Vietnam targets training 50,000 engineers for the semiconductor industry by 2030, of them 15,000 for the design stage, Deputy Director of the National Innovation Centre (NIC) Vo Xuan Hoai has said.

Speaking at a seminar in Hanoi on October 1 on international cooperation in human resources development for integrated circuit (IC) design, Hoai said the training work, initiated and led by the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI), is being implemented by universities across the country. - A ceremony was held at Po Sah Inu tower relic site in Phan Thiet city of Binh Thuan to announce the Prime Minister’s decision to add the golden linga of Binh Thuan into the list of national treasures, and kick off the Kate Festival, a traditional festival of Cham followers of Brahmanism in the south-central province.

Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vo Thanh Huy said that the object was found in an archaeological excavation at the Po Dam Tower Relic Site in Lac Tri village, Phu Lac commune, Tuy Phong district. It was recognised as a national architectural and artistic relic in 1996./. Read full story
